GM Diet Indian Version (for Vegetarians & Non-Vegetarians)

GM Diet aka General Motors diet is a low calorie 7 day weight loss plan that help the followers lose 5 to 7 kgs in a week without any crash dieting. Unlike the other diet plans, it won’t cost you much.

The GM Diet is originally designed for the employees of the General Motors Corp and hence you’ll find the inclusion of beef on the non-vegetarian days 5 and 6. Since, most of the Indians are not likely to eat beef, slight changes have been made to the original version to suit the Indian lifestyle.

P.S: The Indian version of the GM Diet doesn’t vary too much from the westernized or the original version except for the consumption of beef on the Day 5 and day 6 of the diet. So, we’ve altered the GM diet for Indians who are either beef haters or vegetarian.

GM Diet Indian Vegetarian Version

Day 2: Eat all varieties of vegetables including potatoes. You can have the GM diet wonder soup for lunch and dinner.

Day 3: Combination of fruits and Vegetables. No Potatoes or Bananas on this day. Minimum 10-12 glasses of water.

Day 4: Bananas and Milk. You can have skim milk and bananas for breakfast and midday snacks period while the wonder soup can be had for lunch and dinner.

Day 5: Brown rice, Tomatoes and curd. You can substitute beef with either soybean curd or a cup of brown rice or even a cup of Indian cheese (paneer). For meals, you should include tomatoes with cucumbers.

Day 6: Brown rice and vegetables. NO potatoes on this day too.

Day 7: Brown rice, fruit juices and vegetables. You can have 2 cups of brown rice with vegetables and fruits. Apart from 8 to 10 glasses of water, you can also have some fruit juices for breakfast and mid-morning snack. Avoid adding sugar in the juices. Have them natural for better results.

If you follow this 1 week vegetarian GM diet plan without fail, you’ll lose up to 2-3 kgs by the end of Day 3 and 5-7 kgs by the end of Day 7 for sure. Not only the weight, your overall health and digestive system will also be improved by following this awesome 7 day diet plan.

GM Diet Indian Non-Vegetarian Version

1st Day: Eat fruits to your heart’s content. There is no limitation on the amount of fruits you eat on this day, but do remember that you should not eat Bananas on the first day.

Suggested Fruits (our choice): Watermelon, Papaya, Apple, Oranges, Limes and Grapes. You can also include other fruits like Kiwi, Plum etc…

2nd Day: Have 1 large boiled Potato for breakfast. For the rest of the day, you should eat only vegetables either in raw or boiled form. Don’t eat Potato in the remaining day.

Suggestion: If you’re not able to eat raw vegetables, try to prepare the GM Diet cabbage soup or Tomato soup and have it during the Lunch and Dinner.

3rd Day: Today, you can have both Fruits (except the Banana) and Vegetables (except Potato).

Suggestion: You can include fruits for breakfast, morning snack and afternoon snack. Drink the wonder soup during Lunch and Dinner.

4th Day: Today is a surprise! You can have Bananas and Milk on this day.

Suggestion: Prepare a milkshake with 2 bananas and 250ml of milk and drink it during the breakfast, mid-morning snack and evening snack period. So, on a total you should have 6 bananas and 750 ml of milk (Slim milk). For lunch and dinner, try to have the cabbage soup.

5th Day: Here comes the Non-vegetarian menu in the GM diet 7 day plan. You should eat atleast 500gms of chicken/meat and 6 tomatoes today. Water intake should be increased on this day.

Suggestion: You can either prepare chicken soup with tomatoes in it or roast the pieces without oil in a pan/oven. All 3 meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) should contain chicken (500gm/3 times). During the morning and evening snack time, you need to drink water (at least 8 to 10 glasses for the day). No others foods should be eaten today.

Tip: If you’re not fond of eating chicken, you can replace the 500gm chicken/meat with 6 eggs divided into 3 meals + 6 tomatoes.

6th Day: On the sixth day of the General Motors diet plan, you should eat Chicken + all vegetables (except Tomatoes). For breakfast, lunch and dinner, you can eat chicken/eggs/meat (like day 5) and wonder soup (with all vegetables excluding tomatoes) during the mid-morning and evening snack time.

7th Day: Today will be a feast day. You are allowed to eat brown rice, vegetables and drink fruit juices.

Suggestion: For breakfast, you should eat 1 bowl of brown rice cooked with different vegetables like cabbage, broccoli, etc… In the morning snack time, you should drink 1 glass fruit juice (Orange or Strawberries, Pineapple).

During the lunch, you need to eat 1 bowl of brown rice with vegetables followed up with a slice of watermelon or mango. During the evening snack time, you’ll need to drink 1 glass of fruit juice (no banana). For dinner, you will have to eat brown rice with greens.

If you’ve successfully completed this seven day cleansing diet without cheating, then you’ll surely feel much lighter when you wake up on the next day. I have lost 6 kilos in my first week. So, the only thing you should note is ‘don’t cheat on your diet’.

SIMPLE 7-DAY GM DIET MEAL PLAN

DAY #1 (MEAL PLAN)

– Have at least 8-12 glasses of water per day

On day one, also known as adjustment day, you should focus on getting down the basics. Being the first day, you are required to eat only fruits all day long. Any fruit will do except banana or any other fruit that is high in sugar (such as grape, lichi or mango).

You are encouraged to eat watermelon or cantaloupe in plenty for its hydrating effect.

There are no specifications in quantity and frequency of your meals. You can easily eat pure fruits even 20 or more times a day to make you feel full. You need to drink at least half a gallon of water (around 2 liters) a day.

Just remember this day is only fruits day to increase your daily intake of antioxidants and vitamins.

DAY #2 (MEAL PLAN)

On the second day of the GM diet, your body is still adjusting to the change of your meal plan. After a day full of fruits you can introduce all sorts of vegetables into your daily food. The second day is also known as a “veggie only” day, and it will be hard.

You do not have to eat all vegetables raw – you can bake, steam or boil them as well. There are no specific limits on amounts of vegetables you need to eat (one exception are potatoes). My advice is to make salads your main meals (do not forget to add seasonings to make raw vegetables taste much better).

If you like spicy and hot meals, don´t forget to add chili to your salads to improve your metabolism. If you are still hungry, try to make a vegetable or tomato soup as the intake of hot watery soup will make you feel full and help you combat food cravings.

You can have potatoes too, but limit them to breakfast. Remember to stay hydrated and drink about 8 – 12 glasses of water throughout the day.

All those bananas and milk are ideal for replenishing crucial minerals (such as calcium or potassium) and energy levels.

To make combating food cravings easier for you, you are allowed to have a bowl of GM vegetable soup (ideally for lunch). If you feel like you can not make it without food, you can have one even for a dinner.

Also, do not forget to drink a lot (8-12 glasses) of water. It is crucial for this diet to work to always keep yourself well hydrated.

My recommendation for breakfast is a meal that is rich in fiber (preferably boiled legumes). For a lunch, you could have a cup of vegetables of your choice with a portion of meat. For a dinner, you can have the special GM soup with a vegetable salad.

Your daily menu will also include six whole tomatoes that will provide your body with antioxidants and fiber. Additionally, you can eat sprouts as well as cucumbers. Both are low calorie and rich in water and minerals.

Protein-based meals may lead to increased levels of uric acid within your body. That is why you need to increase your water intake on day five.

As the last meal on Day 6, you can have a beef patty (with seasonings) or chicken breast together with a bowl of “special soup“. Do not forget to drink two glasses of water.

EVENING SNACK

As a bedtime snack, I prefer a glass of coconut water to fight food cravings.

During this day, you need to eliminate as much of the fruits and glucose as possible before you hit the “homestretch”. You can enjoy meat as well!

DAY #7 (MEAL PLAN)

– Have at least 8-12 glasses of water per day

– Brown rice, watermelon, strawberries, cabbage, broccoli, fruit juice (orange or pineapple) & legumes

Finally, the last seventh day of the vegetarian version of GM diet has come. Because you have made it this far, you will be rewarded. A lot of people call this day a feast day.

Although you want to avoid sugar at all costs, you are allowed to substitute sweet things with a freshly squeezed fruit juice (without any added preservatives or sugar). Not only that, you will be able to eat a lot of rice, vegetables as well as melons.

Remember to drink your recommended two liters of water (and more) for the day too.

After the seven days, you should be at least 5lbs lighter. A lot of people who follow the diet strictly lose up to 17lbs in only seven days.

INDIAN & VEGETARIAN VERSION OF GM DIET

Surprisingly, there is an easy vegan and Indian alternative to the GM diet. If you would like to move forward with this diet without adding any meat to the program whatsoever, then feel free to do so.

All you need to do is to follow these simple rules:

  • Do not make a change on days that do not require meat (days #1-4 & #7)
  • Make sure that you increase your daily caloric intake on days that include meat (days #5 & #6)
  • You can substitute meat for Indian cheese, cottage cheese, soybeans/soya chunks, brown rice or legumes
  • Try to keep the same amount of protein as in the meat portion of regular GM diet

Just keep in mind that if you do not keep the same amount of protein as well as increase the number of calories eaten on “meat” days as if you fail to do so you may notice a major drop in energy and a slowdown in weight loss process.

THE RECIPE FOR “SPECIAL” DIET SOUP

This “wonder” soup is very simple and as you can see these ingredients are very easy to get and will not cost you a fortune.

Ingredients you will need:

  • 22-28 Ounces of water
  • 6 Onions (large)
  • 3 Tomatoes (large)
  • 2 Green peppers
  • 1 Head of cabbage (red or white)
  • 1 Bunch of celery
  • 1 Red chili pepper (small)
  • 1 Teaspoon of olive oil
  • 1 Carrot (large)
  • Pink Himalayan salt & black pepper
  • Lemon juice

Directions you need to follow:

This recipe is simple. All you have to do is follow these few steps and you are finished:

  1. Rinse and clean all vegetables
  2. Peel onions, tomatoes, and carrot
  3. Chop all the ingredients such as onions, cabbage, carrot, tomatoes, green pepper & celery into small pieces
  4. Place a pot on the stove and add one teaspoon of olive oil
  5. Heat it up and lightly saute onions and green peppers with a few drops of olive oil until they turn a light brown
  6. Add other vegetables you have chopped in step three and sauté it only for an additional minute
  7. Add water to this mixture of vegetables and bring it to boil on a slow flame
  8. Cut up one small chili pepper and add it to the pot (optional, but good for improving metabolism through thermogenesis)
  9. Add salt (pink Himalayan salt has many benefits), black pepper, dried herbs of your choice and season according to your taste
  10. Slow cook it till everything is tender (between 45-90 minutes) and do not forget to stir it occasionally
  11. Serve hot and add few drops of freshly squeezed lemon juice to your bowl for extra flavor
  12. Enjoy your meal

Yes it will work. Just make sure that the vegetable soup you consume does not have any cream/milk on it.

you do not have to eat veg raw, so stir fry is fine assuming you not using bad oils, etc. Depends on what’s in that curry?

I have no clue actually, you may need to look up a conversion when replacing beef. Beef is really about 3.5 to 4.5 ounces per day. Sorry I cannot help, I just never recommend soy due to the health consequences. But yes you can use it.
