7 Day Vegetable Soup Diet

Hey loves! As many of you have requested, I am back with another weight loss / diet recipe. This time around we will be making the famous vegetable soup diet! This diet recipe is just like the cabbage soup detox diet. However, we use different ingredients. This 7 day soup diet recipe is packed with broccoli, cauliflower, yummy bell green peppers, sweet red bell peppers, onions, carrots, and more!

Since this is a vegetable soup, I like to use low sodium broth ( although regular vegetable broth will work as well!). You can indeed use chicken broth if you’d prefer.

Again, this 7 day weight loss soup diet is just like the cabbage soup diet. The soup its self is like a low glycemic diet. It’s low in sugar & carbs.

Keep in mind that this soup diet is not meant to last longer than 7 days.

The Original Cabbage Soup Diet

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 1 head cabbage, chopped
  • 6 onions, sliced or chopped
  • 2 green bell peppers, chopped
  • 1 bunch celery, chopped
  • 1 bunch shallots or 1 bunch green onion, sliced
  • 2 chicken bouillon cubes
  • 1 (1 1/4 ounce) envelope onion soup
  • 1 ⁄2 cup balsamic vinegar (optional)
  • 48 ounces V8 vegetable juice
  • 2 (28 ounce) cans chopped tomatoes
  • 1 lemon, juice of
  • pepper
  • 6 garlic cloves, crushed

Directions

  1. Place all in large stock pot and bring to a boil.
  2. Simmer for 1 hour.
  3. Refrigerate all leftovers.

Pros and Cons of the Cabbage Soup Diet

Pros: You’ll lose weight fast, and for the week, you can eat as much of the foods listed in the program as you want. Although the diet is only for seven days (and shouldn’t be followed for longer), it provides a great “kick-start” for a more moderate diet.

Cons: Some people find the soup bland. Others report feeling light-headed, weak, and have suffered from decreased concentration (although I hear that many people think the diet is worth the effort anyway, since they lose so much weight!).

What the Cabbage Soup Diet is NOT

The Cabbage Soup Diet is sometimes referred to as the “Mayo Clinic Diet,” the “Sacred Heart Hospital Diet,” and by many other names. Interestingly, this diet is not affiliated with either the Mayo Clinic or the Sacred Heart Hospital system.

Number 1 Reason why the Cabbage Soup Diet Fails

As mentioned, the soup can tend to get a bit bland, especially since you are eating it several time a day….every day for a week. For this reason alone, a lot of people drop the diet.

To liven things up a bit, I came up with a couple different spice packs that can be added to your soup recipe. These packs are premeasured, all that you have to do is to add one of pack per batch of your cabbage soup. The soup comes out very tasty – and for that reason it helps you stay on your diet. The Problem With Most “Mainstream” Diets

Most diets – especially “mainstream” diets, and those recommended by major medical institutions – work slowly but surely, resulting in around 1 pound of weight loss per week.

This “slow and steady” way to lose weight is certainly healthy, but suffers from one major flaw: most people get discouraged and quit whatever diet they are on if they don’t see results quickly. This is how the Cabbage Soup Diet can be your savior and catalyst into a more long term solution.

Seven Keys to Success

  1. Follow the diet to the letter!
  2. Drink at least 4 glasses of water per day (or more!).
  3. Remember – it is only seven days long!
  4. Complement the diet with a quality daily multi-vitamin.
  5. Print information from this site and refer to it daily (especially the 7 Day Plan!).
  6. Eat plenty of soup – the more you eat, the more you should lose! Do not try to starve yourself or you’ll probably cheat (this is what we don’t want).
