End Body Fat%: 15.8% (Total Body Fat Loss 2.3% )

The Green Faces Diet is definitely one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done. I knew that physically I would probably suffer from cravings, lack of energy, and possibly other things. I had no idea that it would be so mentally challenging as well. Much of the time when I thought I was craving something, I would realize that it just felt like I “should” have it, not that I needed it. Mindless, thoughtless eating has been found out.

Up to the last meal, eating the GF way revealed a lot to me about myself. I never thought I could have so much self-control. I really didn’t. I’ve never been able to turn away a food that I really wanted. This was especially true when it came to treats (CHOCOLATE CAKE? GIMME!) And I have to admit, if I hadn’t started the blog and if I hadn’t had a handful of people watching curiously as I ate this seemingly absurd way, I don’t know that I would have stuck to it! Accountability is key, because my friend, this was HARD.

What I’m taking away… Well, weight-loss is definitely at the top of the list. But that will still fluctuate based on how much water my body is holding onto. Personally, the most important thing to me is that I did something difficult that I’ve never done before. I did it alone and I stuck to it no matter what outside pressure was present. That’s huge! It means empowerment! It means that I’m probably capable of a whole lot more in other areas of my life as well.

Another insight I find valuable is that I enjoy vegetables far more than I knew. I was able to experiment with new vegetables and was forced to become creative as to evade food boredom. I don’t know about you, but I like some variety, and now that I’ve documented every meal, you too can have variety with much less work! 🙂

A couple other things I learned:

– I can live without fruit

– Eggs are an economical way to get protein and can be made into a myriad of dishes

– Even protein shakes can be interesting! Try: cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, spinach, coffee instead of water, flavored whey protein

– Squash is a carb-satisfying addition to any meal

Should YOU do the Green Faces Diet? Well, that all depends on what you’re trying to accomplish. If weight-loss alone is what you’re after, I’d say there is a more comfortable and less expensive way to do that. It’s called eating clean, counting calories, and exercising. I know. Boring, right? I actually did get bored of doing that and felt I needed to do something extreme (enter GFD) to shake my routine up a bit. I really relished not having to count calories and knew that I was eating less than when I was trying to be careful.

If you want to lose 5-10 pounds in a hurry, feel and be healthier, kick a bad food habit or just see what you’re capable of, then I say, by all means give it a go. You may learn something about yourself in the process as well. Even if you only do it for a week, you’ll benefit just from eating healthful, wholesome foods. If you want the full benefit, then you really need to stick with it for the 21 days. It takes that long for your body to get over using carbohydrates from grain for energy. It wasn’t until the 2nd week that I began to feel normal and energetic again. Even then, I wasn’t up to full speed until the end of week 3.

The GFD proved to be slightly more expensive than when I was incorporating other foods. I was accustomed to making a couple vegetarian dishes a week and that helped to cut back on the food budget. So with all the added meat, the bill rose a bit, but not to the point of being uncomfortable. I kept reminding myself: 21 days, 21 days…

Keep an eye on this blog as I’ll be adding new recipes as I create and discover them along the way.

If you decide to try the Green Faces Diet, please let me know! I’d love to encourage you on your way as well as hear about your progress and insight gained. Testimonials are also encouraged! Please write me and tell me how you liked doing the Green Faces Diet!

The Green Faces Diet — So Easy, A Caveman Could Do It

by Chris Colucci

So Easy, A Caveman Could Do It

Food sensitivities, intolerances, and allergies are commonly undiagnosed and can cause a host of subtle symptoms, ranging from inefficient nutrient absorption and acne to gas and chronic bloating. Elimination diets are a popular and effective way of removing potential allergens or body system stressors (lactose, gluten, caffeine, etc.) from the diet to alleviate any negative reactions.

The Green Faces Diet

Everything I've learned.

What is the Green Faces Diet? It’s explained quite simply, actually.

1) If it’s a green vegetable, you can eat it.

2) If it had a face or would have grown up to have a face (eggs), you can eat it.

3) If it’s not green or didn’t have a face, don’t eat it.

Even though it is very simple, it is not for the faint of heart. It’s never going to be convenient and it will never be easy or fun to give up your favorite foods. Just remember that it’s only 21 days! (Pretend you’re practicing to be on “Survivor.”)

The GFD accomplishes a few different things.

1) The whole point of the 21-day Phase 1 is to completely deplete glycogen in the liver and muscles so the body becomes efficient at burning fat,

2) Breaking sugar and carb addictions,

3) Eliminating foods that commonly cause sensitivities or allergies and becoming aware of them before deciding to integrate them back into your diet.

According to my research, there have been a few different opinions on what foods the GFD allows. Below is the list of foods that I’ve decided on. I also should point out that this list was used by at least a couple friends of mine who experienced great success. I think it’s exciting to note that one of these friends is a 64-year old grandmother just trying to get healthy and another, a 33-year old woman who won overall in her division in a figure competition after implementing the GFD into her preparation. I’m encouraged and confident knowing that this version was tried and tested… and it worked!
