The cabbage soup diet plan usually stretches from a week to 10 consecutive days. During the implementation of this dietary plan, cabbage soup is to be consumed the most along with some variations in food that differ from day to day. Any other food items must not be consumed and a very strict regime for food has to be followed for faster effects.

Cabbage soup diet plan falls under the category of a crash diet routine. In the 7 day plan that is advised, various fruits and vegetables are to be consumed. Every day of the plan has a different but specific food item. These are usually fruits, vegetables or a combination of both, dairy products, tomatoes, proteins and selective juices that can be consumed collectively or separately on specific days. But, all days must have the cabbage soup for sure. The cabbage soup diet makes up the main diet while other food items act like supplements.

Cabbage soup must be consumed throughout the day during the cabbage soup diet plan. There is a limit on the quantity of fruits, vegetables, meats, proteins and dairy products a person can consume, but cabbage soup can be consumed as much as he/she desires. The advised supplementary diet is strictly limited to a certain quantity and time, which must not be violated during the plan. The cabbage soup can be made in a huge quantity for the whole day; though it is said to be best, when made several times and consumed fresh.

Does the Cabbage Soup Diet Work?

Many dieticians and people who have benefited from the cabbage soup diet plan claim that it can reduce 8-10 pounds in a week. The entire diet plan is such that gaining weight is impossible and the inclusion of so many fibers in the soup assists in losing weight. Scientifically, cabbage is a vegetable that gives fewer calories to the body. Moreover, the body takes more calories to digest cabbage so calories are not produced but, more calories are burnt away.

However, cabbages are low on calories so consuming them for an entire day may not be filling enough. Without calories in the body, there cannot be energy. This is why some suggested supplements are introduced to the diet plan. Milk, fruits, meat etc. provide that little window for the injection of energy in a body that is keen on losing weight. The cabbage diet soup is never suggested and may be harmful without these ad-ons.

Cabbage soup diet works perfectly for people who are exceptionally overweight. People who are partially overweight must not implement this plan as there are better remedies for partial decrease in weight.

Cabbage Soup Diet Recipe

Cabbage soup diet plan is not a single meal but a 7-10 day plan. So, the recipe required is not for one single meal but for items that have to be consumed throughout the week. The main dish required is obviously the cabbage soup. There are many kinds of cabbage soup that taste quite awesome. Many variations, additions, can turn cabbage soup delightful, but during the cabbage soup diet plan, it is better to refrain from savoring taste.

In the cabbage soup diet plan, the cabbage soup has to be simple and subtle. It must not have a lot of spice or fat. Too much cooking must be avoided as eating its contents a bit raw is best for reducing weight. The recipe for making cabbage soup for your cabbage soup diet plan is written below-

Cabbage Soup

  • Cabbage (1/2 head)
  • tomatoes (2- small slices)
  • carrots (1- sliced or grated)
  • chopped onion (1)
  • garlic (optional for taste, preferrd-3 cloves)
  • olive oil, salt, water and pepper

  • Begin with a large stockpot over medium heat.
  • Add a few drops of olive oil as soon as the vessel gets hot.
  • As the oil warms considerably, add chopped onions and garlic cloves immediately. Make sure that the oil is not very hot or the onion will give out a bitter taste
  • Let them cook till the onion is translucent and garlic is golden brown.
  • Add 3 cups of water and mix well.
  • To this, add salt and stir for a while. Do not introduce anything till the water starts boiling.
  • Once the water boils, add the small tomato slices and mix again.
  • After 5 minutes, add the sliced carrots and shredded cabbage.
  • Mix all the ingredients well for 2 minutes and then cover the vessel with a lid. Turning the heat of the stove to high will speed up the cooking process.
  • Let all the ingredients cook for 30 minutes.
  • Make sure that you keep stirring the mixture at regular intervals of 5 minutes.
  • After everything is cooked well, simmer for a while and serve.
  • A bit of pepper or coriander to garnish the soup would be great.

The taste of the soup may not be the best but, it is neither the worst. It’s very light and simple. Still if it tastes too bland, one may add spices like oregano or chicken stock powder.

The supplements during a cabbage soup diet are strictly added to provide something solid to the body. Soup is completely liquid and its contents release their nutrients into the liquid so this diet lacks solid nutrients that are essential for producing energy. Supplements are planned according to body characteristics and work really well if consumed in proper quantity. Some supplements and their days of consumption along with specific quantity are listed below-

The cabbage soup has to be consumed at least 3 times a day or more.

All fruits except Banana. Fruit salads work really well when on such diet. Baked apples, raw berries and coconuts are good supplements. Fruits with fibers such as grapes would serve best. Do not consume dry fruits at all. Fruits do not add extra pounds to your body so there is no specific limitation on how much one can consume.

Eat a large variety of vegetables. Though it is important to avoid veggies with starch, having a boiled potato won’t harm much. Make sure that you do not cook vegetables in oil. Boil them in chicken or vegetable stock and have them with salt and pepper. Vegetables must not be consumed wholly for more than one meal. One boiled potato can be consumed only once in the day.

Banana and dairy products occupy the third day. Dairy products are limited to milks and yogurt only. A banana with a glass of milk is perfect. To keep you full during a diet, it is best suggested to have an alternate meal. An alternate meal means having two bananas and a glass of milk first and then cabbage soup after sometime. A couple of hours after having cabbage soup, you can have bananas and milk again. Make it a cycle and your energy levels will be constant throughout the day.

A combination of fruits and vegetables are part of the diet for Day 4. The regulations for both are as mentioned for their respective individual days. Fruits must be consumed more and vegetables must be eaten only boiled.

Meats and Tomatoes. Meats include Chicken and fish only. Tomatoes can be consumed freely but, it is advised to have only 5-7 tomatoes in any form desired. Try to avoid usage of oil while consuming tomatoes as meat would definitely require some oil. Try and keep the usage of oil limited for the meat.

Vegetables and Meat again! Salads must make the greater part of your meat while meats must be limited. Usage of meat in salads is totally acceptable, in fact encouraged.

Fruits, veggies and natural juices. Having many fruit salads, vegetable salads and various kinds of juices can be had on the final day. Juices may not necessarily be fruit juices, vegetable juices like, beetroot juice and carrot juice can also be consumed.

Does the Cabbage Soup Diet Plan Work?

This crash diet may initially sound quite appealing with its claim to rid of about 10 pounds of your weight but it isn’t healthy. Only subjecting yourself to a dietary plan for loosing weight is never a good idea.

A good weight loss plan, included and healthy diet and a good workout.

1. Rapid, Unhealthy Weight Loss

Having only cabbage soup for a week can drain your body or many nutrients and make you unhealthy. You will feel lethargic and lifeless. Besides, the rate at which this crash diet claims to help you lose weight is a sign in itself regarding how unhealthy it is. Once you go back to your normal diet, you will start to gain weight again. Therefore, stripping your body of nutrients doesn’t make sense.

Cabbage soup sucks calories out of the body and other supplements like fruits or vegetables do not provide much energy. This way, there is a great possibility that an individual implementing this plan may feel dizzy or weak. While the cabbage soup drains calories, limited food reduces the resources that the body requires to keep functioning well. No matter how good a person’s health is, this plan weakens one’s body.

There is no chance of a person working out in a gym or going down for a jog. While this plan is in progress, a person has to rest and exert minimum pressure on the body. Working normally would tire a person very easily which makes the implementation of the plan even more difficult. This is the reason why many people opt to lessen their fat intake and sweat it out in order to reduce weight. That is a very healthy and safe way to reduce extra pounds of the body.

The cabbage soup diet plan is very unhealthy. It can cause sudden weakness and sudden weakness can lead to injuries or disorders. If a person’s health deteriorates while implementing this plan, the recovery takes a long time. The reason behind that is the fact that not many nutrients are consumed by the affected person and the general diet too, is compromised.

This method of reducing weight literally forces the body to lose pounds. On one hand, the body is starved and on the other, calories in the body are forced out by the cabbage soup. The worst thing about following the cabbage soup diet plan is that the effects are temporary but, with lasting hazards. Sudden rise or fall in the body weight is too dangerous for any person and can cause disorders.

Once a person, who has successfully reduced weight using the cabbage soup diet plan, gets back to normal habits- his weight tends to increase. Regular eating habits can increase weight just like before. This is the biggest drawback of this plan. There is no point in weakening the body for a week and getting back to where you started from after a fortnight.

Introduce the cabbage soup in your diet. You can have some soup in between meals instead of snacks, if you are keen to lose weight. Exercise more and continue your regular diet, or jut make sure you are eating healthy.

If you do have cabbage soup regularly (2-3 times a week), calorie levels will go down while unnecessary fat will by burnt naturally, by sweating out while exercising. This will provide you with a natural reduction of weight that won’t weaken you in fact, it will strengthen you. Eventually, whatever weight you have reduced will not reoccur on resuming regular eating habits.
